Meyerton Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Wife

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Meyerton in connection with the alleged murder of his wife following a police investigation that began recently.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng, the woman was reported missing on March 3 after allegations surfaced that her husband had stabbed her and locked her inside their home.

When police arrived at the house to investigate, both the husband and wife were missing. Authorities immediately launched a search for the couple.

The suspect was eventually located on 5 March 2026 in Vereeniging with the assistance of members of the local Community Police Forum.

During questioning, the man allegedly led police to a nearby stream where the victim’s body was discovered. Police reported that the body had been placed inside a recycling bag and left at the site.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.

He is expected to appear before the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 9.

SAPS management in Gauteng has thanked community members for assisting in locating the suspect and helping police in the investigation.

Police also used the incident to highlight the ongoing challenge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), which continues to affect communities across the country.

“Gender-Based Violence and Femicide affects everyone and it needs all of us to stand together and denounce it in our communities,” SAPS said in a statement.

Authorities have urged community members to continue working with law enforcement to combat violence and protect vulnerable individuals.
