Mutilation of two kids in Soweto sparks rage

The community of Soweto is in shock following the discovery of the mutilated bodies of two young boys, aged five and six, who were reported missing on Wednesday evening, April 19.

The bodies were found in two separate locations: one in White City and the other in Rockville in the morning of April 20.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, has mobilised all available resources in response to the tragic incident.

A search team involving all relevant stakeholders, including search and rescue teams, was activated to find the missing boys.

In a statement, Lt Gen Mawela condemned the murders in the strongest possible terms, saying, “It is so disheartening and disgraceful to see such little innocent lives being lost in this hideous manner. It cannot be that no one saw or heard nothing. We are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to please report to the police.”

The South African Police Service has urged the public to come forward with any information that may help with the investigation. Anyone with information about the murders is urged to contact the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111.

Anonymous tip-offs can also be reported on the MySapsApp, which can be downloaded on any smartphone. All information received will be treated as strictly confidential.

The murders have sparked outrage in the community, with many taking to social media to express their shock and anger.

A user on Twitter, @Zuma2Cyril wrote, “Parents please protect your children no matter where in SA, they do not have any other protection in this country. We do not have a government.”

On Facebook, Louella Taylor – Tumbler posted: “God help us please we need you now more than ever. Innocent babies murdered 😭😭💔💔”

The incident has also reignited calls for greater efforts to address crime and violence against children in South Africa.

As the investigation into the murders continues, the police have assured the public that they will do everything in their power to bring those responsible to justice.
