South Africa made history on Saturday, December 16 by winning both the boys’ and girls’ titles at the African Schools Football Championship COSAFA Qualifier in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The victorious South African girls’ team beat Botswana 3-1 in the final, led by a brace from top scorer Khwezi Khoza. “I am so happy,” said delighted coach Ntombifuthi Khumalo afterwards. “It is mission accomplished, and we have won again.”

Khumalo praised her young players’ efforts and called for continued support on their development journey, saying “they are destined for great things.”

The South African boys’ side also emerged triumphant, defeating Malawi 3-0 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in their final match.

“We are proud of the achievements of our boys and girls who completed the double in Zimbabwe,” said SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan. “This is a great Christmas present from our teams. Well done!”

Player of the tournament awards went to South Africa’s Simama Inganathi and Katleho Malebana for the boys and girls sides respectively. Zimbabwe took the fair play honor in the boys’ event, while Namibia did so for the girls.

Khumalo said the victories highlighted the country’s emerging talent. “I am asking all of you to continue to do more for them because they are the future of our country,” she stated.
