Nelisiwe Motsoagae Continues to Climb the Ladder
Nelisiwe Motsoagae from Tsakane is a passionate and seasoned Sports Administrator who continues to climb the ladder.
She has been nominated for the 2024 Gauteng Sports Awards under the category of Administrator of the Year.
The 13th annual Gauteng Sports Awards are organised by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation with the Gauteng Sports Confederation.
The awards are hosted annually to honor and reward the province’s best sporting talent, paying tribute to individuals, teams, and organizations who have excelled in sporting activities on and off the field.
“I was brought up by my grandparents and was very active as a child, starting to play sports at the age of 13. My passion began in 2011 after the World Cup when I retired from playing. I started as a team manager for regional squads. I’m currently working as a finance officer and am responsible for coaching education under SAFA Ekurhuleni. I’m also a qualified coach. My role model is my late grandmother, who was one of the strongest women I’ve ever known. She was also a community leader,” says Motsoagae.
“My nomination is a reflection of all the hard work done behind the scenes being seen and noticed. What I do on a daily basis is attending to events, making sure that all the paperwork is done, and ensuring all the checks prior to and after the event are completed. Also, compliance and acceptability take place. I studied financial management, sports administration, FIFA safeguarding, and coaching courses.”
Motsoagae also highlighted some of the challenges that exist within her industry.
“Football is a male-dominated space, and there are still some of our male counterparts who do not believe that women can do it. You constantly have to prove yourself. I’m very grateful to SAFA Ekurhuleni for giving me the opportunity as well as allowing me to grow in this space. I would like to encourage people to go out there and chase their dreams, and if given a space, don’t limit yourself. Good luck to all the finalists, and may the best person win.”
The much-anticipated Gauteng Sports Awards will take place on November 24 at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) auditorium.
