Police Rescue Kidnapped Pakistani Businessman in Sebokeng

A joint operation led by the South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully rescued a Pakistani businessman who was kidnapped two months ago in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg. The operation also resulted in the arrest of a 46-year-old female suspect, who now faces charges of murder and kidnapping.

The businessman, who was abducted by three African males driving a BMW X5, was taken from Lenasia in October 2024. According to police reports, the kidnappers demanded a ransom for his release shortly after the abduction.

The SAPS Kidnapping Team, supported by Crime Intelligence, the Gauteng Hostage and Negotiation Team, and the Germiston Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), worked tirelessly to locate the suspects. Additional support came from the Sedibeng Search and Rescue team, as well as SAPS Lenasia and SAPS Evaton.

“The team conducted a thorough investigation, gathering crucial intelligence which eventually led us to Sebokeng,” said Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, spokesperson for the SAPS. “Thanks to the collaboration between various units, we were able to locate the victim and bring him to safety.”

Upon searching a property in Sebokeng, officers discovered the kidnapped businessman alive in one of the rooms. Tragically, they also found the body of an unidentified African male at the scene. The female suspect was arrested and is being held in connection with both the kidnapping and the murder.

“The discovery of the deceased male raises serious concerns,” van Wyk added. “We believe the individual may have been involved in the crime, and we are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Police recovered two mobile phones from the scene, which are expected to aid in further investigations. Authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow as the case unfolds.

“We are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. If you or someone you know is a victim of kidnapping, please contact the SAPS Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111,” van Wyk added.
