Police in Balfour are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the family of a man whose body was discovered floating in a local dam early on Saturday, December 20.
According to police, the body was found at about 06:30 after a passer-by alerted authorities to an object floating in the water that appeared to be a human body.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said officers responded to the scene and were shown the exact location in the dam. “Upon arrival, police observed a floating brown, leather-like plastic material wrapped with a cord in the dam,” he said.
The Provincial Diving Unit was called to the scene and later recovered the body. The deceased is believed to be an African male. His body was in a decomposed state, and he was wearing only black trousers at the time he was found.
Police investigations are ongoing, and the circumstances surrounding the death are still being established.
