PYEI Educator and School Assistants Application Opens

Applications for the Basic Education Employment Initiative Phase V Now Open

The Department of Basic Education has officially opened applications for the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) – Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) Phase V.

This initiative offers unemployed youth the chance to gain valuable work experience by becoming Education Assistants or General School Assistants in schools across South Africa.

Applications opened on 22 April 2025 and will close on 09 May 2025 at 23:59.

There’s no need to rush to apply on the first day—your application will still be considered as long as it is submitted before the deadline. If you experience a slow internet connection while applying, simply refresh the page and try again a few minutes later.

Successful candidates will be contacted for interviews between 19 and 31 May 2025, and those who are selected will begin work on 02 June 2025.

The roles available include positions as Education Assistants who support teaching and learning in classrooms.

These include curriculum assistants, reading champions, ICT support (e-Cadres), care and psychosocial support assistants, as well as laboratory and workshop assistants.

For these roles, having a matric certificate is required, and preference will be given to applicants with tertiary qualifications, especially in education-related fields.

There are also opportunities for General School Assistants, who will help with infrastructure maintenance and cultural activities.

These roles include handymen and women, and assistants for sports, arts, and enrichment programmes. A matric certificate is not required for General Assistant positions.
