Tupper South Africa has recently announced that it will be closing down end of December 2024 after more than 60 years of its operation in the country.
According to the statement released last week, it has been bought out by a company that has decided to go from 70 to eight countries and SA was not one of them.
This is very sad news especially to the factory workers, staff, resellers and distributors with some saying Tupperware was their only source of income. Letta Thabethe (58), “I have been distributing Tupperware products for over five years now. This is really devastating news for us because many families depend on it as a source of income to put food on the table.”
Sarah Dludlu (25), “I’m not happy because people who are bread winners are going to lose their jobs. My mother has been a reseller of the product for many years and managed to buy some of the things at home with the little that she made.”
Nombulelo Tshabalala (56), “Tupperware has been a household brand name for years and it is sad news indeed to hear that they are closing down. I feel sorry for everyone who is going to lose their jobs because unemployment is a very serious problem.”
Tupperware SA added that they have not received any moulds (equipment) to continue manufacturing and create any future products and there is limited quality stock available. At this stage, the board of directors and management are waiting for the final instructions from the company’s shareholders and taking legal advice as to how to manage the current situation.
