Search On for Missing Omphile Sebiloane

The community of Ratanda is reeling following the abduction of 8-year-old Omphile Sebiloane in the early hours of Friday, June 5.

According to a statement issued by the Lesedi Local Municipality, intruders unlawfully entered the Sebiloane family home with the reported intent to commit robbery.

During the break-in, the suspects kidnapped little Omphile, who was last seen wearing pink track pants, maroon top and a black jacket.

Lesedi Executive Mayor, Councillor Mluleki Nkosi, expressed profound sorrow at the incident, describing it as part of a disturbing trend of violent crimes affecting the Ratanda area.
“I am disheartened by the series of violent events that have recently beset our community,” said Nkosi.

He also praised the community for rallying behind the family.

“I am encouraged by the voice of reason coming from all corners of the community pleading for the safe return of little Omphile,” he added.

Mayor Nkosi highlighted the importance of community responsibility in addressing ongoing violence. Ratanda has been plagued by an alarming increase of kidnappings and missing people in the past two years.

The community is still seeking the public’s help in locating six-year-old Njabulo Mashinini, missing since January last year, on her way to see her father and never made it there.

“Collective responsibility is the solution to repetitive incidents that hinge on the peace and safety of our citizens,” Mayor Nkosi said.

The case has also been escalated to the office of Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

Mayor Nkosi confirmed, “The Premier has been requested to release all resources at his disposal to help arrest the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of Omphile.”

The call for Omphile has reached the masses in social media, including media reports on television and online.

Nkosi further called on residents to be alert and proactive. “I urge everyone in our community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to our local authorities immediately. Together, we can create a safer environment for our children and support those who are affected by this turbulent experience.”

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Ms Evelyn Ntoka at 060 819 7345 or Ms Annah Sebiloane at 073 852 5188, or to visit their nearest police station.
