South African and Chinese Weather Services Forge Collaborative Partnership
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has taken a significant step towards international meteorological cooperation by hosting a high-level delegation from the China Meteorological Administration.
Led by SAWS CEO Mr. Ishaam Abader, the recent visit from Dr. Chen Zhenlin and his team marks an important milestone in bilateral scientific exchange.
The primary objective of the delegation’s visit was to explore and enhance collaborative opportunities, with a specific focus on developing and improving Early Warning systems.
Early Warning systems play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of extreme weather events, potentially saving lives and reducing economic losses. By combining expertise from both nations, the partnership aims to leverage advanced technological and scientific approaches to weather prediction and risk management.
“International collaboration is key to advancing our understanding and preparedness for meteorological challenges,” said Mr. Abader. “Our discussions with the China Meteorological Administration represent a promising pathway for knowledge sharing and technological innovation.”
The meeting underscores the growing importance of global scientific cooperation in addressing climate-related risks and enhancing national resilience against extreme weather phenomena.
