Sphithiphithi Evaluator appears in court
The account owner of the Twitter handle, Sphithiphithi Evaluator (@AfricanSoil), Zamaswazi Zinhle Majozi who was arrested on Saturday, August 28 in Leondale (Ekurhuleni) appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday.
She appeared before the judge on charges of incitement of public violence.
According to the police, Majozi (36) is alleged to have incited public violence in the content she circulated on her social media accounts which resulted in the looting and burning that occurred at Brookside Mall in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
She was granted bail of R3000 with conditions that she surrender her passport, report to the nearest police station daily and ensure that she informs the investigating officer when leaving the province.
The case was postponed to October 18.
Thus far, about 18 suspects have been arrested by SAPS and DPCI (Hawks).
Some have already appeared in various courts in Gauteng, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal with others having been granted bail and others remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old suspect appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court also on charges of incitement to commit public violence. The session was held in camera therefor his name cannot be divulged as yet.
The case was held behind close door so as not to prejudice the identification parade which is yet to be conducted.
The case was postponed to 6 September 2021 for possible bail application.
