Police in Katlehong have arrested a 29 year old suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm, three live ammunition and car hijacking instruments in Spruitview.
“On Tuesday, October 23, Crime Prevention Members of SAPS Katlehong received an information about the Hyundai Accent motor vehicle that was roaming around Spruitview with no registrations and had a broken window on its rear door. According to the information received it was suspected that the occupants were planning to commit house robbery,” Katlehong police spokesperson Constable Sive Mthwa explained.
The local officers then re-grouped and operationalized themselves by technically observing the said car.
Just before 8pm, the car was spotted dropping off one occupant (an African male) who was carrying a brown leather bag, Police then followed him and requested to conduct a body search.
Upon searching him, he was found with a firearm with three live ammunition in his possession and serial number filed-off.
When asked to produce firearm licence he couldn’t. Police continue with the search on his bag and found car breaking implements.
“He was immediately informed of his rights, placed under arrest and detained at SAPS Katlehong. After being charged for his offences he will be expected to appear at Palm Ridge court in due course,” Constable Mthwa said.
The Station Commander of SAPS Katlehong Brigadier Albertina Vesi has applauded the good work done by her force in removing a firearm from the wrong hands of criminals.
She further thanks the community members of Spruitview by being observant in their area and by doing so they have saved many lives from being victims of trio crimes that fall under serious offences.
“Let’s continue to do what is best, not for us only, but for our community at large,” said Brigadier Vesi.
