Two nabbed for hijacking in Joburg central
Johannesburg Central police arrested two suspects aged 22 and 30 for car hijacking at corner Albert and Small Street in the inner-city on the Sunday afternoon, July 24.
“It is alleged that suspects hijacked a Black BMW X1 driven by a 31 year old male corner Grahamstown and Von Weiligh Street on the 24th at 05:30 in the morning. The victim was stationary at the red traffic lights when two suspects opened the door of his vehicle; they pulled him out of his vehicle and assaulted him. He ran away and they drove off with his vehicle,” explained police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele.
During the day, the victim spotted the suspects driving a white Hyundai and alerted the police who were busy with their routine crime prevention duties. The vehicle was intercepted at corner Small and Albert Street; the hijacked vehicle was recovered at Jeppe Street parked next to Discount Supermarket.
“Investigation is underway and suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court,” Captain Mbele confirmed.
