Bomb-making couple arrested in Daveyton
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) in Etwatwa, arrested a foreign national couple, for possession of explosives and bribery on Wednesday, December 13.
While on high visibility, officers received information from a reliable source, about a certain house on D.M. Mthumunye Street in the Daveyton area (Extension 6); which is suspected to be used by criminals, for harbouring stolen items, including explosives,” explained EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.
When the metro police raided the house, they discovered a sack full of detonating fuses, outside on the doorstep.
During the search, a 34 year old woman, was found with more explosives. These include 15 detonating fuse, 113 blasting cartridges and 21 wiring blasting cartridges.
“The female suspect was interrogated, and she made a call to a person, responsible for the uncovered explosives. The 40 year old male suspect responded and tried to bribe officers with R6000, before he was handcuffed. Both suspects facing charges of possession of explosives and bribery, were marched to the Daveyton police station,” said Thepa.
The couple is expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon.
