Fake goods worth R4 million seized in Jozi
On Tuesday, March 7, a container filled with counterfeit goods with brands such as Gucci, Nike, Adidas etc. including 24 000 ‘blister packs’ of illegal sex enhancement drugs, were confiscated in the Johannesburg CBD.
“An integrated operation by Ekurhuleni Metro Police Truck Hijacking Unit (EMPD T.H.U), South African
Revenue Service (SARS), South Africa Police Service(SAPS) Vispol Unit and K-9 units, took place at the two
locations in the Johannesburg, Shop 203 and China Cash & Carry. The members found a 32-year-old Chinese female, whom they approached and requested to search the premises and permission was granted, and counterfeit goods were discovered and seized,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.
When police went to the second location, a whole lot more counterfeit goods were found in a shipping container, and proceeded to confiscate all they can carry.
The Chinese female nationality, was issued a detention letter by SARS to appear at their Office for Counterfeit Goods. Further processing and engagement will be done for authenticity and disposal on the seized items worth an estimated R4.3 million.
“We will not tolerate criminals and syndicates that impede on the economy prosperity of South Africa,” Thepa concluded.
