Ford Mustang Recalled Over Rear-View Camera Defect
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a public alert to owners of Ford Mustang vehicles following a product recall announced by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd. The recall affects models sold across South Africa between 2015 and 2019.
According to the NCC, the recall is due to a defect in the vehicles’ rear-view camera system. Ford reports that affected vehicles may display a blank or distorted image on the centre display screen when the car is placed in reverse.
A malfunctioning rear-view camera poses a safety risk as it reduces the driver’s visibility when reversing, increasing the likelihood of an accident. Ford explained that if the rear-view image is lost for more than 10 seconds, the system triggers a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), and a warning message appears on the display notifying the driver that the rear-view camera is unavailable.
The NCC has urged all owners of the affected Ford Mustang models to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership to have their vehicles inspected. The necessary repair work will be carried out free of charge.
Consumers seeking more information about the recall are encouraged to contact Ford dealerships or the National Consumer Commission for assistance.
