Katlehong police prepare for festive season

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Katlehong is transitioning from community engagement initiatives to heightened operational readiness as the festive season approaches.

On Sunday, November 10, Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim Shezi, the Operational Commander of Katlehong SAPS, led a crucial community meeting at Kabelo Primary School.

The gathering brought together key stakeholders including the Community Police Forum (CPF) executive, Faith Based Organizations, and anti-crime groups such as Yizo-yizo to strategize on crime prevention during the upcoming holiday period.

The well-attended assembly in sector one provided a platform for community members to voice their concerns, with drug-related crime emerging as a primary issue. Lt. Col. Shezi addressed various questions from residents, receiving positive feedback for his responses.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the community’s commitment to reinstate street committees and increase neighborhood patrols, aimed at supporting the CPF’s efforts.

“We shared essential safety tips with community members, particularly regarding financial security during the festive season,” said Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa, spokesperson for Katlehong SAPS. “We strongly advised residents to conduct stokvel transactions through banking channels and emphasized the importance of keeping pension and RAF (Road Accident Fund) payout information confidential.”

The initiative reflects SAPS Katlehong’s proactive approach to ensuring community safety during the traditionally high-risk festive period through enhanced police-community collaboration.
