Local Young Actress Seeks Sponsorship for International Opportunity
A talented 18-year-old actress from Roodepoort in Johannesburg, Snegugu Makhombothi, is seeking sponsorship for her upcoming trip to the United States after successfully auditioning for a prestigious talent event.
Makhombothi, known as Gugu, has been selected to participate in the International Presentation of Performers (iPOP) in Los Angeles this June. iPOP, which hosts events twice annually, connects promising performers with industry professionals.
“Gugu auditioned for iPOP and passed the auditions. She was then given a contract to go to the USA,” her mother, Zengezile Makhombothi, explained.
According to organizers, iPop promotes emerging talent to leading agents, managers, casting directors, and music industry professionals. For over 20 years, the contest taking place in the Los Angeles area twice yearly. Performers attend from over 30 different countries. They coach with industry experts, compete in front of agents and managers who are looking for the stars of tomorrow, and sign contracts.
Some of the success stories from iPop have gone and be cast in Hollywood blockbuster films like X-Men, Twilight Saga and, The Avengers.
The program aims to advance Gugu’s craft through runway shows, networking opportunities, and career development in acting. “Gugu is yet to do more auditions in the USA with different casting directors for their different runway shows,” Zengezile added.
Already demonstrating her talent in performing arts, Gugu won a dance award last December and has formal drama training. The US trip will expose her to the international entertainment industry, offering opportunities to work with renowned coaches, attend exclusive workshops, and perform for global audiences.
“We believe that Gugu has the potential to become a world-class actress, and we are eager to support her on this journey. We are grateful for any sponsorship or support that can help make her dreams a reality,” said Zengezile.
The family needs to raise R120,000 to fund Gugu’s trip and is appealing to the community for support. Those interested in contributing or learning more can contact Zengezile Makhombothi at 063 831 4155.
