Man Accused of Mamelodi Double Murder Abandons Bail Application
The man accused of the brutal killing of two young women in Mamelodi has abandoned his bail application following a brief appearance at the Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Tebogo Mnisi (38), from Extension 17 in Mamelodi East, faces two counts of premeditated murder, one count of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of unlawful ammunition.
Mnisi is accused of shooting and killing Tshiamo Sweetness Moramaga (22), a beauty student, and her cousin Baleseng Mirandah Moramaga (21), a teacher assistant. Their friend, Desmond Senong (26), survived after sustaining gunshot wounds during the incident, which allegedly occurred in the early hours of 26 October 2025, near Small Konka Tavern in Mamelodi East.
The accused, who appeared emotional in court, kept his head bowed throughout the proceedings and wiped away tears as the charges were read. The courtroom was packed to capacity, with family members, friends, and community members in attendance.
Mnisi informed the court that he would abandon his bail application and requested state legal representation. The magistrate postponed the case to 19 January 2026 to allow the prosecution to complete ongoing investigations, which include collecting witness statements, hospital records, a ballistic report, photographs of the crime scene, and a J88 medical report.
According to Desmond’s sister, Mpho Masindi, her brother was discharged from hospital earlier this week but was readmitted due to complications from his injuries.
“He was shot twice in his private parts but managed to run away and seek help. He said he didn’t know the suspect or the reason for the attack,” said Masindi.
Mnisi was arrested a day after the incident, on 27 October 2025, at a petrol station along Solomon Mahlangu Drive.
A candlelight vigil is being organised in Mamelodi to honour the memory of Tshiamo and Baleseng and to pray for Desmond’s recovery.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has condemned the killings, reiterating its commitment to fighting gender-based violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full might of the law.
“The NPA condemns acts of gender-based violence and femicide and remains committed to ensuring justice for victims,” said Lumka Mahanjana, Regional Spokesperson for the NPA Gauteng Division: Pretoria.
