Nine suspects dead in foiled CIT heist

Nine suspects have been killed during a shootout with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Sebokeng, Sedibeng District recently.

The suspects were allegedly on their way to commit a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery when they were traced to an address in Sebokeng.

The shootout ensued after the suspects opened fire on the police.

A total of eight suspects were certified dead at the scene while the ninth suspect died in hospital. Three others were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment under police guard.

The SAPS has seized six rifles, six commercial explosives that were already assembled and ready to be detonated, as well as four vehicles.

General Bheki Cele, Minister of Police, expressed his confidence in the SAPS’s efforts to fight against serious and violent crime.

He emphasized that the police are there on behalf of the community and will not tolerate criminal activities.

“We can’t co-govern, we can’t rule with criminals. We are asserting the authority of the state on behalf of our communities”, said General Bheki Cele.

The SAPS has been commended for their quick response and effective handling of the situation. The community has expressed their gratitude to the police for their bravery and dedication in keeping the streets safe.
