According to Captain Johan van Dyk, police spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 02:15 at a Sasol garage on Old Johannesburg Road. “A group of around 14 men allegedly robbed the convenience store of various items, including cigarettes and chocolates,” Van Dyk said.
During the incident, an explosive device was detonated at the ATM. When police approached, the suspects fled in different directions. “Six suspects were apprehended, while approximately eight others escaped in a Quantum minibus,” Van Dyk said.
A shootout ensued, resulting in the injury of one suspect. The injured individual was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The injured suspect is receiving medical attention and will be charged once released from hospital.
