President wishes Muslim communities a blessed Eid ul Fitr

President Cyril Ramaphosa wishes Muslim communities around South Africa a blessed Eid ul Fitr today, Thursday, 11 April 2024.

The President said: “The Holy Month of Ramadan encompasses spirituality, personal introspection and good deeds that contribute to the wellbeing of Muslims and people other faiths alike.

Eid al-Fitr is a significant Muslim holiday celebrated at the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting and prayer.

It marks a time of joy and renewal, with special prayers, festive meals, and communal gatherings.

Muslims dress in new attire, give charity, and share meals with family and friends.

“At a time when there is so much wrong with the world, at a time when human suffering, hardship and injustice is laid bare, the spirit of Ramadan inspires us all.

The holiday is observed globally, reflecting core Islamic values of compassion, unity, and devotion. It’s a celebration of faith, community, and the culmination of a period of spiritual dedication.

“May today be a joyous celebration that will sustain the faithful for another year of devotion and social upliftment.” Ramaphosa said.
