R350 SASSA grant will continue to be paid
According to the agency’s CEO Totsie Memela and General Manager: Grants Administration Fanie Sethokga, the Social Relief of Distress Grant which is given to unemployed citizens will continue for the next three months.
This is despite SASSA earlier stating that the grant will end in October.
Applicants who are yet to receive the R350 monthly grant are encouraged to start by checking their current status on their website prior to lodging an appeal.
“All applications are re-assessed every month regardless of the decision made in the previous month. This is to ensure that only those who qualify can receive the grant. We also took into consideration the decrease in lockdown levels that may have permitted other applicants to reassess their avenues of generating an income,” said the agency in a statement.
Anyone who’s declined, must lodge an appeal at the covid19srdappeals@sassa.gov.za site.
Anyone who doesn’t lodge an appeal will NOT be reconsidered as we don’t have funds to reconsider every declined case.
Withdrawal for deceased applicants
SASSA reports that it has been flooded with a string of enquiries relating to applicants who applied for the Special Covid-19 SRD Grant and passed on before knowing the outcome of their application or receiving their payment.
“SASSA Will NOT identify or accept a secondary person (family members) to collect the Covid-19 SRD grant/payment on behalf of a deceased client. The COVID -19 SRD Grant can only be paid to the person who applied not the second person or relative,” said the agency.
The money if paid through the South African Post Office (SAPO) will be reconciled back to the Agency.
If payment was through Cash-Send or Mobile Money, such unwithdrawn funds will be returned back to SASSA after a stipulated timeframe with the banks.
“There will be no payment of Special Covid-19 grant for applicants who are deceased,” confirmed the agency’s spokesperson Nandi Mosia,
