R370 Grant Recipients Urged to Use Cell Numbers Registered in Their Own Name
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has called on all applicants of the R370 COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to ensure that they use cell phone numbers registered in their own names when submitting applications.
In a statement issued recently, the Agency emphasised that both the applicant’s cellphone number and banking details are essential for the application and verification process.
“All applicants and beneficiaries must be aware that using your own number will assist to monitor and check the progress of the application, and receive notifications from the Agency that might need the applicant or beneficiary’s attention,” SASSA said.
These notifications include messages prompting applicants to complete verification steps. The Agency warned that failing to complete these verifications will lead to an unsuccessful application, meaning no R370 grant payment will be processed.
SASSA noted that the verification system is in place to ensure the grant is paid to the correct person and to prevent fraud.
“When the banking details do not belong to the applicant, the system will not verify the payment. Once the banking details have been verified and confirmed, the grant will be received from the next pay run,” the statement read.
The Agency further urged applicants to provide accurate information to avoid unnecessary delays in receiving their funds.
Applications for the SRD grant can be made via the official platform by selecting either South African ID Holders or Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders and following the prompts.
For assistance, applicants can contact SASSA’s toll-free helpline on 0800 60 10 11 during working hours, Monday to Friday.
