The remains of Ekurhuleni MMC for Roads and Transport, Andile Mngwevu, have been found in Mozambique, weeks after the vehicle he was travelling in was swept away by floodwaters.
Mngwevu went missing after a vehicle carrying five occupants was caught in severe flooding in the Chokwé area of Mozambique earlier this month.
Since the incident, search and rescue efforts have been underway involving Mozambican authorities and a South African rescue mission.
The City of Ekurhuleni confirmed that while contact had previously been made with one of the occupants of the vehicle, Mngwevu’s whereabouts remained unknown until the recent discovery of his remains.
