SAPS Investigates Viral Video of Policewoman Slapping Citizen at Tsakane Police Station

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has expressed disappointment regarding a viral video circulating on social media, which captures a uniformed policewoman allegedly slapping a member of the public at the Tsakane Police Station. The incident has sparked public concern and criticism about the conduct of law enforcement officers.

In response, SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi the provincial management of the police condemned the behavior, emphasizing that it contradicts the SAPS code of conduct, which requires officers to uphold respect and integrity in all interactions with the public.

“This behaviour is uncalled for, and the SAPS code of conduct advocates for clients to be treated with respect and integrity at all times. Both the Sergeant and the member of the public have opened cases of assault and crimen injuria against each other,” said Colonel Nevhuhulwi.

In addition to the criminal complaints, the police management has confirmed that an internal disciplinary case will be opened against the Sergeant involved in the incident. This measure, according to the SAPS, is part of ensuring accountability and maintaining professional standards within the police force.
