SASSA Gold Card Switch Deadline Extended to March 20

The South African government has extended the deadline for SASSA beneficiaries to exchange their Gold Cards for new Postbank Black Cards from the end of February to March 20.

Ministers Solly Malatsi and Nokuzola Tolashe made the announcement in a joint statement on Friday, February 14.

“We have listened to the deep concerns and frustrations from our social grant beneficiaries and we trust that this extension will provide much needed time for grant recipients,” they said.

The Ministers assured beneficiaries that grant payments will continue even after the March 20 deadline, though those who haven’t switched cards will need to collect their funds from Post Office branches.

“We strongly encourage our beneficiaries to make sure that they change to the Postbank Black Card as soon as they can, and well ahead of the 20 March 2025 deadline,” the Ministers added.

To facilitate the transition, the departments are increasing staff capacity and working with retailers to expand the number of card exchange locations across South Africa.
