Six Ekurhuleni Metro Cops Released on Bail
The six members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) arrested by IPID for allegations of robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice were released on bail of R3000 by the Boksburg Magistrates Court recently.
Falaza Shirinda (34), Lesiba Thaba (39), Siyabonga Yika (32), Cecilia Ngubeni (32), Kevin Seisa (31), and Rofhiwa Neloheni (34) were arrested on Wednesday, March 5 at the EMPD offices in Kempton Park for an incident that allegedly happened on the same day.
All six officers are linked to the EMPD Drug Unit.
It is alleged that on the day of the incident, they stopped a Congolese national for a traffic offence.
“They allegedly requested his identification documents to confirm if he was legal in the country, and he handed over the documents. Thereafter, they went to verify his documents at Boksburg Home Affairs,” the IPID stated.
After the verification process, they allegedly drove with him to his house in one of the estates in Boksburg, where they allegedly searched the house without a warrant, and confiscated an amount of money that was found in the house.
“The case was postponed to 25 March 2025 for Regional Court,” IPID said.
