Siyathemba Sports Facility to get a revamp

Balfour – Dipaleseng Local Municipality has officially handed over the site for the long-awaited upgrading of Siyathemba Sport Facility, marking the beginning of a transformative 12-month project funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).

The project, implemented by Gert Sibande District Municipality, aims to provide youth and sports enthusiasts with a modern, safe, and inclusive facility to develop talent and strengthen community pride.

Comprehensive Development Plan

The upgraded facility will feature extensive improvements across multiple areas:

Building Infrastructure: The development includes a combined ticketing station with main guardhouse, an indoor sports centre, public ablutions, change rooms, and a facility manager’s residence.

Sports Amenities: Athletes will benefit from an artificial turf pitch, a rubberized athletics track, combi courts with sports tiles, and a PVC-coated perimeter fence for added security.

Essential Services: The project encompasses connection of all buildings to water, sewer, and stormwater systems, general outdoor lighting, and gravel parking areas to accommodate visitors.

Accessibility Features: Disabled access ramps, boundary walls, and secure gates will ensure the facility is accessible and safe for all community members.

To ensure transparent implementation, a Project Steering Committee (PSC) comprising relevant stakeholders will oversee the project’s progress. A Project Introduction Meeting will be convened soon to provide community members with detailed information about the project benefits and construction timelines.

“The upgrading of the Siyathemba Sport Facility represents more than just infrastructure – it’s an investment in our youth, community well-being, and local talent development,” said Dipaleseng Municipality spokesperson Phindi Sidu.

“Proper sports facilities play a vital role in promoting healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and the growth of future sports champions right here in our municipality.”

The project is expected to be completed within the next 12 months.
