Ekurhuleni warns Jobseekers on EPEP scam
The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that is is aware of a job scam circulating on various social media platforms, falsely promising placement in the Ekurhuleni Public Employment Programme (EPEP) and learnership programmes in exchange for a fee.
Residents are strongly advised not to fall for this scam. The city warns unsuspecting job seekers and the residents that this information is false and should be treated as such.
“All skills development and job creation programmes offered by the city are completely free of charge. These initiatives are designed to empower residents with valuable skills and employment opportunities – not to exploit them financially,” the City’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini explained.
Currently, there are no open applications for these programmes. The most recent application period for EPEP and learnership closed on 26 August 2025 and 29 August 2025, respectively.
No new application dates have been announced.
Selection processes are yet to take place for the two programmes and successful candidates will be contacted directly by the city’s Skills Development Department.
Aspiring job seekers and residents are reminded that all legitimate job opportunities are advertised on the City’s official website.
“Stay vigilant and if you encounter any suspicious message of vacancies or are unsure about its legitimacy, please contact the relevant city Human Resource Department,” Dlamini said.
