Gospel Music Legend Solly Moholo passes away

South Africans have joined together in paying tribute to the late legendary gospel artist, Solly Moholo, who passed away on Wednesday, October 2, while hospitalized in Tshwane.

Moholo had been hospitalized since September, following a sudden illness after his successful pre-album launch tour in Botswana.

In August, Mapepeza published an article regarding the unfortunate hospitalization of gospel legend Solly Moholo.

The tour, which took place in Serowe and Letlhakane (both in Botswana) on August 23 and 24, respectively, was meant to pre-launch his upcoming album Wubani O zo Pepeza.

The Molokoane family released a statement confirming the legendary musician’s passing, saying, “It is with great sadness that we are informing you on behalf of the Molokoane family, that our beloved legend Solly Moholo has sadly passed on.”

“He passed on 2nd October 2024 whilst in hospital,” the statement continued. “Solly Moholo was hospitalized after falling ill following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana. He will be sorely missed. May his laughter continue to echo the walls of heaven.”

The family expressed gratitude for Moholo’s legacy, remembering him fondly for “the healing music he gave us over the years.”

The family has requested privacy and time to mourn and prepare for Moholo’s burial.

“At this time, the family would like to request that they be given privacy and time to mourn the passing of Ntate Solly Moholo and prepare for his burial,” the statement read.

Details of his memorial and funeral services will be shared on Solly Moholo’s official pages in the coming days.
