Justice served as investigator sends child rapist to jail

Katlehong Station Commander, Brigadier Albertina Vesi, has welcome the sentencing of a 24 year old accused who was 20 years old by the time of his arrest for raping an 8 year old minor (who is now 12 years and still a minor).

Thabo Alfred Mkebisi from Vosloorus Extension 20, has been sentenced to 22 years direct imprisonment for rape of a child.

On September 29 four years ago, the victim was invited to a party by her friend who was also a minor, as they went to the same .

The young girls had fun until late at night. The mother of the victim’s friend told her not to go home as it was already late, she agreed and slept with her friend in the kitchen.

“On the very same night while they were sleeping, Thabo who is the brother of her friend joined and slept next to them. On the next morning the victim found her trouser zip opened and she was feeling a severe pain in her virgina, Thabo had raped her and told her not to tell anyone what had happened,” explained police spokesperson Constable Sive Mthwa.

The victim then left her friend’s place limping with severe pain in her private parts. On arrival at home she couldn’t bare the pain and decided to tell her grandfather who took it upon himself and arranged medical attention for her granddaughter.

It was then confirmed that she has been raped and the case was opened at Katlehong SAPS.

A case docket for rape was then allocated to Sergeant Ntombi Mdladlamba under Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit at Katlehong, who did a meticulous investigation by collecting all the evidence including DNA results that linked her to Thabo as a suspect which resulted to his conviction.

On Friday, August 5, at Regional Court Gauteng sitting at Palmridge, Thabo was sentenced to 22 years sentence for rape of a child.

“In terms of section 50 (2) act 32 of 2007 names of the accused is referred to national register for sex offenders and in terms of section 103 (1) act 60 of 2000 firearms control act, accused is automatically declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Constable Mthwa said.

Brigadier Vesi has applauded exceptional work done by Sgt Mdladlamba, “As we celebrate Women’s month we must always shine and take a stand against GBV by sending a strong message to GBV perpetrators.”

Investigative Officer, Sargent Ntombi Mdladlamba is a heroine after her investigation ensured that justice prevails for the young victim of rape.
