Tributes pour in for Gauteng Acting DG, Thabo Masebe
The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) has expressed deep sadness after the passing on of the Acting Director General in the Gauteng Office of the Premier and government communicator, Mr Thabo Masebe.
“Masebe was a loyal and committed servant of the people who dedicated his time to transforming the Provincial Communications Services and the overall improvement of the public service in the provincial government in his capacity as the Acting Director General over the past few months,” said GPG in a statement.
Masebe was a multi-skilled communicator with over 20 years’ experience in the public service. Before his appointment as the Head of Communications in the Gauteng Provincial Government he worked at The Presidency as the spokesperson to former Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe.
During his tenure at The Presidency, he was also responsible for managing the Communications Directorate in the private office of the Deputy President In all the roles he has served in, he placed the wellbeing of the people above everything else – a true servant of the people.
Premier David Makhura expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Masebe family, particularly his children and siblings, and the provincial government at large. “Masebe was a meticulous public servant with a wealth of knowledge. He was dependable and executed all his duties with diligence, precision, and competency. “The Gauteng Provincial Government is poorer without Masebe. We are grateful to the Masebe family for allowing him to share his selfless spirit of activism with us and for the outstanding contribution in bettering the lives of the people of Gauteng,” Makhura concluded.
Masebe was also the spokesperson for the Gauteng Provincial Governent.
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) on Tuesday (April 19) extended its heartfelt condolences to the Masebe family, his colleagues and the province at large.
“Masebe was known for his commitment and dedication to serving the people of South Africa. His passing is a great loss to the public service. He served with distinction and courage, and often went beyond the call of duty,” said GCIS Director-General, Phumla Williams.
Masebe served more than 20 years in government. In 2010, he joined the Presidency, serving as spokesperson for former Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.
“He was an accomplished, multitalented and resourceful public servant, who was well-known for his integrity.
“As communicators in the public service, we will remember and action the many lessons we have learnt from Thabo. We pray for strength for his family and friends,” Williams said.
