387 Christmas Babies born in Gauteng public Hospitals

A total of 387 babies were born in Gauteng hospitals and clinics on Christmas Day, according to statistics released by the Gauteng Department of Health.

According to the statistics, academic hospitals saw the highest number of births at 83, followed by tertiary hospitals with 47 births and regional/district hospitals with 166 births collectively.

Community healthcare centers across the province welcomed 91 Christmas babies.

Overall, there were 186 boys and 201 girls born in Gauteng on December 25th. The busiest hospital for Christmas births was Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital with 46 babies delivered.

To celebrate the holiday arrivals, MEC for Health Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko visited mothers and their newborns at Sebokeng Hospital in Sedibeng. She provided them with gift bags containing essential supplies and words of encouragement.

The provincial health department promises continued efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rates.

They encouraged expectant mothers to make use of community healthcare centers for checkups and delivery to prevent overcrowding at hospitals.
