Chinese ambassador highlights investment opportunities in Limpopo

Wu expressed optimism about the future of relations between the two countries, saying he hopes to see more practical outcomes from ongoing cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Wu Peng has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with South Africa after attending the 6th Limpopo Investment Conference alongside Deputy President Paul Mashatile and Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba.

The conference brought together government leaders, investors and business representatives to promote investment opportunities in Limpopo and encourage economic growth in the province.

Speaking after the event, Ambassador Wu said Limpopo is well positioned for investment because of its abundant mineral resources, strong agricultural sector and strategic location within the Southern African region.

He noted that Chinese-invested companies have been operating in the province for many years, contributing to local economic development by creating employment opportunities and supporting cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador also encouraged South African exporters to take advantage of China’s zero-tariff policy, which allows qualifying products to enter the Chinese market without import duties. He said the policy presents an opportunity for South African businesses to increase exports of quality products to one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

Wu expressed optimism about the future of relations between the two countries, saying he hopes to see more practical outcomes from ongoing cooperation.

“I look forward to more tangible deliverables for China-South Africa practical cooperation to advance the China-South Africa All-Round Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the New Era,” he said.

South Africa and China continue to maintain close trade and investment relations, with both countries seeking to expand cooperation in sectors including mining, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and technology. The Limpopo Investment Conference forms part of broader efforts to attract investment that supports job creation and economic development in the province.
