Winter’s Chill Sets In This Weekend for Gauteng and Mpumalanga
The cold front that’s been brewing is finally making its move into South Africa, bringing a blast of chilly air and rain to various parts of the country.
According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS) the Western Cape will be the first to feel the impact, which started on Thursday, 17 July, with scattered thundershowers and rain expected to sweep in throughout the weekend in the inland regions.
“As the system progresses eastwards, it will bring colder conditions to other provinces, eventually exiting the country on Friday. During its passage, the central and eastern parts of the country will experience rainfall, with KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng being affected.”
Meanwhile, areas in the north, such as Musina and Upington, can expect slightly warmer weather compared to the rest of the country.
Forecaster Tokelo Chiloane advises, “As the system progresses eastwards and exits the country on Friday, rainfall will extend to the central and eastern parts of the country. KZN, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng will be affected by rainfall.”
Furthermore he added that, to stay warm and cozy during this cold snap, people can:
- Wear warm clothing, including hats, gloves, and scarves
- Use blankets and hot water bottles to keep warm at home
- Drink hot beverages, such as tea or soup
- Avoid going outside during the coldest parts of the day
- Check on vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly and young children.
SAWS also has issued a warning for heavy rain along the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), which may lead to localised flooding on Saturday.
