SASSA warns grant review beneficiaries of delayed August payments

After receiving their payment on the fourth payment day, affected beneficiaries are expected to visit their nearest SASSA office during August to complete the review process.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged social grant beneficiaries whose grants are currently under review not to panic if they do not receive their payments during the normal three-day August payment cycle.

In a media statement issued on 28 July, SASSA said beneficiaries whose grants have been identified for review will instead receive their payments on the fourth payment day, provided they have been selected for the review process.

The August 2026 social grant payment schedule is as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 6 August
  • Grants under review: Friday, 7 August

SASSA said beneficiaries who do not receive their grants on 4, 5 or 6 August should first check whether their grant is under review before rushing to a SASSA office.

“Beneficiaries whose grants are under review will be paid on Friday, 7 August 2026,” the agency said.

After receiving their payment on the fourth payment day, affected beneficiaries are expected to visit their nearest SASSA office during August to complete the review process.

SASSA warned that failing to respond to a review request could result in a grant being suspended or lapsing in terms of the Social Assistance Act.

The agency also reminded beneficiaries that grant review notifications are sent via SMS, making it essential for recipients to keep their contact details up to date.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to notify SASSA immediately if they change their cellphone number, residential address or any other contact information to ensure they receive important communication about their grants.

SASSA said the review process forms part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that social grants are paid to the right beneficiaries and in accordance with the law.
