A 44-year-old Vosloorus woman has been sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment after being convicted of attempted murder following a violent assault that left a woman seriously injured.
According to Vosloorus SAPS, the incident took place on 24 May 2025 when the accused allegedly attacked a woman at a local tavern. Police said the victim was socialising with the suspect’s former partner when she was struck in the face with a broken beer bottle.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment before later being discharged.
The suspect was arrested on 3 July 2025 by Warrant Officer Ndlovu and later appeared several times in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court. She was granted bail on 18 July 2025 before the matter was transferred to the Vosloorus Regional Court.
Following a series of court appearances, the court convicted the accused and, on 1 July 2026, sentenced her to 15 years’ direct imprisonment.
Vosloorus SAPS credited Detective Sergeant Ntombi Shimange for leading the investigation, with assistance from Sergeant Katekane Sarila and Sergeant Noel Mavhundla.
Sgt Shimange, who has 16 years of policing experience, including 13 years as a detective, was praised for conducting a thorough investigation that secured the conviction.
Station Commander Brigadier L.N. Thethe congratulated the detectives on their successful work and encouraged them to continue serving the community with dedication.
Police said the sentence sends a strong message against violent crime and will help improve public safety, allowing residents to socialise without fear of violence.
