Hawks launch manhunt for Mothoezane Xaba
The suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at the guard before taking a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash. Police allege that approximately five suspects fled the scene in a blue Nissan Tiida with registration number CY28TPGP.
The Hawks in Welkom are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Mothoezane Xaba, of Daza Hostel, who is being sought for questioning in connection with an armed cash-in-transit robbery in Sasolburg.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) detectives are investigating the robbery, which took place on Tuesday, September 22.
According to police, security guards were carrying out their routine cash collection duties at retailers in Sasolburg when one of the guards was allegedly confronted by an armed suspect.
The suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at the guard before taking a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash. Police allege that approximately five suspects fled the scene in a blue Nissan Tiida with registration number CY28TPGP.
The security guards pursued the suspects to Minaar Street in Vaalpark, where the suspects allegedly abandoned the vehicle and hijacked an Amarok/Quantum minibus with registration number MD45GVGP, taking its driver with them.
The suspects allegedly drove towards the Vereeniging taxi rank, where they abandoned the minibus and boarded a taxi travelling towards Vosloorus.
During the incident, two vehicles in the vicinity and several building walls were damaged in the shooting. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Xaba, who is believed to be originally from KwaZulu-Natal, is sought by investigators for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
