Gauteng 2027 Grade 1,8 School Admissions opening soon

He further appealed to parents and guardians to work together with the department by applying on time and participating responsibly throughout the process

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has called on parents and legal guardians to prepare for the 2027 online admissions process for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners, which officially opens on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile announced that the online application period will run from 08:00 on 5 August until midnight on Friday, 4 September 2026.

During this time, all applications for placement in Gauteng public schools must be submitted through the Gauteng Online Admissions System.

The department has encouraged parents/guardians to avoid waiting until the final days of the application period, warning that no late applications will be accepted after the closing date.

Importantly, applicants are advised to not rush the process of applying as soon as admissions opens online and they can use the time period to make a well informed choice for suitable school for their children.

Applicants have also been advised that they will need to create new login credentials, as usernames and passwords used during previous admissions cycles will no longer be valid.

To ensure a smooth admissions process, the department has urged parents and guardians to provide authentic supporting documents, carefully follow every step of the online application process and seek assistance through the department’s official support channels where necessary.

According to MEC Maile, submitting applications early and complying with all admissions requirements will help the department facilitate a more efficient placement process ahead of the 2027 academic year.

“The annual online admissions process plays a critical role in ensuring that learners entering Grade 1 and Grade 8 are placed at Gauteng public schools in a fair and efficient manner,” said Maile.

He further appealed to parents and guardians to work together with the department by applying on time and participating responsibly throughout the process.

“We encourage every parent and legal guardian to apply as early as possible, submit authentic supporting documents, follow every step of the application process carefully and make full use of the Department’s official support services whenever assistance is required. Together, through honesty, partnership and responsible participation, we will continue strengthening public confidence in our education system while ensuring that every learner is afforded the opportunity to learn, grow and realise their full potential,” said Maile.

Applicants intending to enrol children in Grade 1 or Grade 8 for the 2027 academic year are encouraged to complete their applications well before the deadline to avoid unnecessary delays or disappointment.
