Ratanda’s growing film industry has received a major boost after the locally produced film Majita – Kasi Story was officially selected to participate in the Vaal Film Stockvel 2026.
The film was produced and directed by Ratanda filmmaker Lebohang Mokheseng, founder of Million Dollar Motion Production. Mokheseng is known for producing several locally made films that provide opportunities for emerging talent from the community.
The main cast includes Sebusiso Mabena, Nthabiseng Mokoena, Lehlohonolo Mokheseng, Elton Ncube, Lebohang Tlale, Ricardo Mbakada and Thulane Nkabinde.
Reacting to the nomination, Mokheseng called on the Ratanda community and surrounding areas to rally behind the production.
“We humbly ask the entire Ratanda community, surrounding areas, and all our supporters to please support us by sharing and spreading the word. Let’s bring this award home. Your support means everything to us. Together we can change the universe,” he said.
In an official selection letter, the Creative Industries Marketing Stockvel (CIMS) confirmed that Majita – Kasi Story had been chosen to participate in this year’s Vaal Film Stockvel.
According to the organisers, the programme aims to showcase local films while helping filmmakers build audiences through community screenings and collaborative marketing initiatives.
The screening programme will take place on 31 October, 14 November and 28 November 2026. The specific screening date for Majita – Kasi Story will be announced separately.
As part of the programme, participating filmmakers are required to commit to promoting the Vaal Film Stockvel, selling tickets and supporting the initiative until its conclusion on 28 November.
Million Dollar Motion Production will also attend a compulsory Marketing and Sales Workshop at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre on 13 October 2026, where filmmakers will receive guidance on the stockvel model, marketing strategies, ticket sales and participation requirements.
The nomination marks another milestone for Ratanda’s creative industry and highlights the growing recognition of local filmmakers on regional platforms. It also provides an opportunity for local talent to showcase their work to wider audiences while inspiring more young people to pursue careers in the film and creative sectors.
