The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the official social grant payment dates for May 2026, providing clarity for beneficiaries across the country.
According to the schedule, Older Persons Grants will be paid on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, followed by Disability Grants on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. Children’s Grants, including the Child Support Grant, will be paid on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
SASSA continues to follow its staggered payment system to ensure smoother distribution and to reduce congestion at pay points. The agency has also reiterated that beneficiaries do not need to withdraw their money on the first day, as funds remain available in their accounts until needed.
The payment schedule aligns with guidelines set in consultation with the National Treasury, which aim to avoid payments falling on weekends, public holidays, or the first day of the month. This system is designed to improve access and ensure the efficient functioning of the national payment system.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to plan accordingly and to report any payment issues to their nearest SASSA office.
