Five suspects aged between 15 and 21 have been arrested following an alleged armed robbery targeting a 20-year-old e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park Extension 7.

The arrests were made by members of Eldorado Park Crime Intelligence, detectives and Visible Policing (VISPOL) following a prompt investigation and the gathering of operational information.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at approximately 11:00, when the driver, who was operating a white Toyota Etios, responded to a ride request on Maine Street.

Upon arriving at the location, a female suspect allegedly signalled the driver and entered the front passenger seat, instructing him to wait for her brothers. Two male suspects later joined them in the vehicle.

Police said that shortly after the second male suspect entered the vehicle, one of the suspects engaged the handbrake while the group allegedly robbed the driver of an undisclosed amount of cash, his driver’s licence, identity document and bank cards.

During the robbery, a fourth suspect who was standing outside the vehicle allegedly fired a gunshot and demanded the driver’s mobile phone. However, the suspects fled the scene without taking the phone.

Following further investigations and operational follow-ups, police managed to arrest five suspects in connection with the incident.

All five suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges related to armed robbery and firearm offences.

The arrests form part of police efforts to investigate and apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in violent crimes targeting members of the public.
