Mphikeleli Joseph Moloi, known to his legions of fans as Mob-Shot Trikka, is no longer just a local nameโhe is a rising continental star.
The Early Spark
The Ratanda-born musical odyssey began at the tender age of 12. While many his age were focused on schoolyard games, he was captivated by the rhythm of a small bedroom studio owned by his step-cousin. It was there, amidst raw beats and recording sessions with friends, that his passion for music was ignited.
Originally finding his voice in Hip Hop, Trikka quickly made his mark with the 2019 hit single “Drip,” which featured his first official music video. This wasn’t just a debut; it was the turning point that signaled he was ready to take his career to the next level.
By 2020, he solidified his presence with the EP Dreaming on a Dream, earning him features in online publications like ArtiphiQ Mag and Extraordinary Mag.
The Amapiano Pivot and TikTok Dominance
In 2022, inspired by the explosive success of artists like Young Stunna, Mob-Shot Trikka made a strategic transition into the Amapiano genre. His first piano single, “Amacamera,” paved the way for him to be named “Best Performer” by the AYDF Organization later that year.
However, it was his digital savvy that truly set him apart.
His “Celeb Freestyle” became a viral juggernaut, racking up over half a million views on TikTok and proving that his sound resonated with the digital generation. This momentum led to high-profile collaborations, including the hit song “Jagermeister” with TallexQ, which took his performances beyond South African borders to Swaziland.
The “Zep” Phenomenon
Currently, the streets and social media are buzzing with his latest trending sound, “ZEP Freestyle.” Produced alongside Dj Bongz Deekota, the track has become a staple of TikTok dance challenges, further cementing his reputation.
The “Zep” soundโoften characterized by its high-energy “Zep Zep Zep” vocal hookโhas already seen his official YouTube channel hit over 76,000 views (at the time the article was published) on the freestyle alone, while his presence on curated playlists like Yianos Magazi continues to grow.
A Multi-Talented Creative
Mob-Shot Trikka is more than just a musician. In 2024, he expanded his brand into content creation and design, becoming one of the most recognized multi-hyphenate creatives in his township.
