The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has officially opened nominations for the 19th South African Sport Awards, inviting members of the public to nominate athletes, teams and individuals who excelled during the 2025 sporting year.
The annual awards recognise outstanding achievements across South African sport, including athletes, coaches, administrators, volunteers, technical officials and members of the media who have contributed to the development and promotion of sport.
According to the department, the awards will celebrate excellence achieved throughout 2025, with nominations now being accepted through the official SA Sport Awards online platform.
Among the headline categories are Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and awards recognising athletes with disabilities.
Additional categories include Sport Administrator of the Year, Recreation Body of the Year, Sport Volunteer of the Year, Youth/Junior Sport Star of the Year, Youth/Junior Sport Team of the Year, Sport Visual Journalist of the Year, Sports Media Journalist of the Year, Technical Official of the Year, National Federation of the Year, Sport Star of the Year, as well as the prestigious Andrew Mlangeni Green Jacket and Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement awards.
The department encouraged South Africans to support their sporting heroes by submitting nominations and helping to recognise those who have made the nation proud through their performances and contributions to sport.
