The launch aligns with ongoing efforts by the Government of South Africa to deepen cooperation with international partners in areas that support professionalisation of the state, modernisation and improved service delivery.

Mapepeza News Media has officially launched Khetha Khona, a public interest media campaign designed to empower voters with accessible, relevant, and unbiased information about candidates and political parties contesting in their local areas.

Communities that could be affected include Germiston, Edenvale, Boksburg, Kempton Park, Thembisa, Katlehong, Thokoza, Vosloorus, Tsakani, Brakpan, Springs, Benoni, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Duduza, Nigel and parts of Kwa-Thema.

Gauteng MEC for e-Government Bonginkosi Dhlamini congratulated all the finalists, saying the hackathon demonstrated the creativity and innovation of Gauteng's youth and reaffirmed government's commitment to developing future digital leaders.

He added that government leaders should never have to comfort families who have lost loved ones during service delivery protests.

Premier Lesufi described the events as "deeply unfortunate and regrettable" while condemning the violence that erupted during the protests, including the torching of the Lesedi Executive Mayor's home.

Police confirmed that while arrests have been made for public violence, no suspects have yet been arrested in connection with the alleged arson attack on the Executive Mayor's former house.

The winning team will be crowned the 2026 G13 Hackathon Champions and recognised as the province's leading young technology innovators.
