Residents and business owners in Vosloorus have welcomed the arrest of four suspects linked to business robberies in the area, saying the breakthrough has brought hope to a community that has been living in fear due to rising criminal activities.
The arrests come after a joint operation conducted by Vosloorus SAPS and district police members, which led to the suspects being tracked down and arrested in the Germiston area on Thursday, 15 May 2026.
Police said the suspects were positively linked to a recent business robbery in Vosloorus. During the arrest, officers recovered bank cards belonging to victims, two firearms believed to have been used during the crimes, and a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects.
The development comes shortly after the safe return of well-known Vosloorus business owner Mazwi Mazibuko, who was reportedly kidnapped for the entire month of April by unknown foreign nationals. His kidnapping had sent shockwaves through the community, with many local business owners fearing they could become the next targets.
Community members have since called for stronger action against criminal syndicates accused of terrorising businesses, taverns, and local entrepreneurs in the area.
Police confirmed that the four arrested suspects include three foreign nationals and one South African citizen. They are currently being held at Katlehong SAPS and are expected to appear before the Vosloorus Magistrateโs Court on Monday, May 18, for a bail application.
Vosloorus SAPS Station Commander Brigadier L.N. Thethe praised police officers involved in the operation, saying their efforts were helping restore confidence among residents and business owners.
Police investigations are continuing, and authorities have urged community members to continue working with law enforcement by reporting criminal activities in their areas.
