The Rotary Club of Sandton has once again demonstrated the power of community spirit, raising over R30,000 during its 2026 Blanket Drive aimed at supporting vulnerable residents through the winter season.
The charity initiative, hosted over the weekend at the Winnie Mandela Precinct in Sandton, drew strong public support, with donations collected both on-site and online. According to organisers, the drive raised R18,600 on Saturday and R8,370 on Sunday, with an additional R3,000 contributed via a web link. With further contributions from Rotary members and their networks, the total amount has surpassed R30,000.
The funds raised will go directly towards purchasing blankets for those in need, with each R100 donation sponsoring one blanket. The initiative forms part of Rotaryโs ongoing commitment to humanitarian service and community upliftment.

Rotary is a global network of volunteers dedicated to tackling some of the worldโs most pressing challenges, including poverty, education, health, and disaster relief. Locally, the Rotary Club of Sandton plays an active role in improving lives through targeted outreach programmes such as the annual blanket drive.
Organisers expressed gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and community members who contributed to the campaignโs success.
โThis initiative shows what is possible when people come together with a shared purpose. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps bring warmth and dignity to those who need it most,โ the club said.
Despite the successful fundraising efforts, Rotary Sandton has emphasised that the need remains significant, particularly as winter conditions continue to affect vulnerable communities across Johannesburg and beyond.
As temperatures drop, initiatives like the Blanket Drive serve as a reminder of the importance of collective action and compassion. Through continued support, Rotary Sandton aims to ensure that no one is left out in the cold this winter.
Contributions will continue to be used to extend the reach of the programme and assist more families in need.
Members of the public who were unable to attend the event are still encouraged to support the cause by making donations online.
