Learners in Gauteng and the Free State have been invited to take part in a short video competition that explores the growing connections between South Africa and China.
The competition, titled “South Africa & China: More Connected Than We Think”, is being organised by Driving Education Culture in partnership with the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg.
The initiative encourages learners in Grades 8 to 12 to create a two- to three-minute video showcasing cultural, educational, economic, technological, or social links between the two countries.
According to the organisers, the competition aims to inspire young people to learn more about the relationship between South Africa and China while developing their storytelling and digital content creation skills.
Participants are required to submit their entries through TikTok by posting their videos, tagging @chnconsulategeneraljhb and @drivingeducationculture, and following the competition guidelines.
The competition offers cash prizes and recognition for the best entries.
The first-place winner will receive R3 000 in cash and a Certificate of Honour.
Two second-place winners will each receive R2 500 in cash and a Certificate of Honour, while two third-place winners will each receive R2 000 in cash and a Certificate of Honour.
There is also a team category, where members of the two winning teams will each receive a school bag.
In addition to the main prizes, the top 50 entrants will be invited to an awards ceremony at the Chinese Consulate in Johannesburg in late July 2026 and will receive stationery packages.
Entries opened on 5 June 2026 and will close on 1 July 2026.
Winners will be announced on 10 July 2026 through the Chinese Consulate General Johannesburg’s social media platforms, including X and Facebook.
Organisers say the competition provides a platform for young people to share creative perspectives on the relationship between South Africa and China while competing for valuable prizes.
