Vosloorus Police recover four illegal firearms, three suspects nabbed

Vosloorus police have recovered four illegal firearms and 84 rounds of live ammunition following an intelligence-driven operation linked to the investigation of a murder case in Tsakane.

According to Vosloorus SAPS, information received by Crime Intelligence led officers to Vumbuka Squatter Camp, where they responded to a shooting involving individuals who were following up on information related to the Tsakane murder investigation.

During the operation, two male suspects, aged 26 and 27, were apprehended. The 27-year-old suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the second suspect was arrested without injury.

Police recovered one firearm, two magazines and 26 rounds of ammunition from the suspects. A case of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition has been opened for further investigation.

While still processing the scene, officers received additional information about more firearms allegedly being kept at a nearby house. Police conducted a lawful search of the property, where they discovered three more firearms, three magazines and 58 rounds of live ammunition.

A 44-year-old woman found at the residence was unable to produce documentation proving lawful ownership of the firearms. She was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

In total, police seized four firearms, three magazines and 84 rounds of live ammunition during the operation.

“This demonstrates the commitment of our officers. Illegal firearms have been removed from the wrong hands, making the Vosloorus community safer. I am proud of our members and commend them for their dedication and hard work,” said Brigadier Thethe.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
